Women's Shoe Size Guide: Measure Once, Shop Right

Buying shoes online is one of the most common questions we hear at SAVAH — and the worry is always the same: “What if they don't fit?” The good news is that shoe sizing follows simple, repeatable rules. Once you know your measurements in centimetres and understand how EU, UK and US sizing relate, you can choose the right pair the first time, from anywhere in Morocco.
This guide walks you through measuring your feet at home, reading a size chart correctly, and deciding what to do when you sit between two sizes. It's the same method our team uses when helping customers pick the right fit.
Why correct shoe sizing matters more than you think
Shoes that are even half a size too small change the way you walk. Over a few hours, pressure builds at the toes and heel, and a pair that felt “a little snug” in the morning becomes uncomfortable by evening. Shoes that are too large slip at the heel, which makes you grip with your toes and tires your feet faster.
Getting the size right isn't about vanity — it's about comfort, posture and how long the shoes last. A well-fitted pair keeps its shape; a poorly fitting one creases, stretches unevenly and wears out faster. For everyday shoes like women's round-toe flat pumps, a correct fit is what turns a pair you tolerate into a pair you reach for every morning.
How to measure your feet at home (in 4 steps)
You don't need a specialist. A sheet of paper, a pen, a ruler and a wall are enough.
- Measure in the afternoon. Feet swell slightly during the day. Measuring in the afternoon or evening gives you a more realistic — and safer — number.
- Trace both feet. Stand with your heel against a wall, place paper under your foot, and trace the outline. Measure both feet, because one is often slightly longer.
- Measure heel to longest toe. Use the longer foot. Read the distance from the back of the heel to the tip of the longest toe in centimetres.
- Add a little room. Add 0.5 cm for closed shoes so your toes can move. For open sandals, the measurement alone is usually enough.
Write the result down in centimetres. That number — not "I'm usually a 38" — is what you'll compare against a size chart.
How to read a women's shoe size chart
Shoe size charts look intimidating because they mix three systems: EU (used in Morocco and most of Europe), UK and US. The number that never changes is the foot length in centimetres. Always start there.
- EU sizing runs roughly 35 to 42 for women and increases by about 0.67 cm between whole sizes.
- UK sizing is one step behind; a UK 5 is close to an EU 38.
- US sizing for women usually runs about two sizes below UK (US 7 ≈ UK 5 ≈ EU 38).
When a product page shows a size chart, trust the centimetre column first, then the EU size, then the UK/US equivalents. If a chart shows only EU sizes, our customer team can convert your measurement for you.
EU, UK and US conversions at a glance
- EU 36 ≈ UK 3 ≈ US 5 ≈ 22.5 cm
- EU 37 ≈ UK 4 ≈ US 6 ≈ 23.5 cm
- EU 38 ≈ UK 5 ≈ US 7 ≈ 24.1 cm
- EU 39 ≈ UK 6 ≈ US 8 ≈ 24.8 cm
- EU 40 ≈ UK 6.5 ≈ US 8.5 ≈ 25.4 cm
- EU 41 ≈ UK 7.5 ≈ US 9.5 ≈ 26.0 cm
- EU 42 ≈ UK 8 ≈ US 10 ≈ 26.7 cm
These are close approximations, not a perfect rule — brands differ slightly. Use them as a starting point, and check each product's own chart when one is provided.
What to do if you're between two sizes
This is the most common question we receive, so here's a clear rule:
- Between two sizes and the shoe is closed (pumps, loafers, closed toes): choose the larger size. Your toes need room, especially in warm weather when feet swell.
- Between two sizes and the shoe is open (sandals, slingbacks): choose the smaller size — an open shoe won't pinch the toes the same way.
- Wide feet: sizing up alone rarely fixes width. Look for styles described as wide-fit or made with softer, more forgiving uppers. You can read more in our wide-fit notes when the campaign expands.
If you're still unsure, message us with your centimetre measurement before ordering. Choosing the right fit the first time is far easier than arranging a return.
Common sizing mistakes to avoid
- Assuming all brands fit the same. A 38 from one maker can feel like a 39 from another.
- Measuring in the morning. Feet are smallest then; you may under-order.
- Ignoring the shape of your foot. Length is not the whole story — width and arch matter too.
- Buying for how they look rather than how they measure. Elegance starts with a shoe that fits.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know my shoe size without trying them on?
Measure your foot in centimetres at the end of the day and compare it to the chart on the product page. Centimetres are far more reliable than a remembered size number.
Should I size up for closed shoes?
Yes. Add about 0.5 cm for closed shoes so your toes have room to move, especially in warm weather.
What if I'm a half size in one shoe and not another?
Trust the centimetre measurement for the specific product, not a general habit. If you're between two sizes, follow the rule above: larger for closed, smaller for open.
Do you ship across Morocco?
Yes — SAVAH delivers throughout Morocco. Check the product page for current delivery details.
